An enclosure is typically required for a component subwoofer to work properly and different enclosure designs and sizes can produce very different results. Enclosed subs take all the guess-work out of finding an enclosure that is tuned to work with your subs by packaging and/or mounting subs inside an enclosure that has been tested is certified to provide the best turning and performance for the included subs.

A sealed box is the most common and versatile and this enclosure style is ideal for any application where space is going to be an issue. A sealed subwoofer box will deliver a tight, clean and accurate bass response and have a flat frequency response curve.
Ported or Vented Subwoofer Boxes have holes cut into each subwoofer compartment that allows air to escape. These vents/ports cause your subs to produce a loose low bass response that can be described as more of a low rumble than a quick "thud". Ported/Vented sub boxes are popular among people who listen to of rap, hip-hop, or any other bass heavy musical style.
Truck boxes(or slanted enclosures) work like any universal subwoofer enclosure but are optimized to fit in the space behind the last row of seats in a pick-up truck. As a result, many truck boxes only provide enough air space to accommodate a low profile component subwoofer.
